Taqueria Pico de Gallo

So I was going to write about Tucson restaurants, but then I got busy with a big case up in Phoenix. It finally went to trial on December 1st, and I remembered, damn, I was going to write about some food spots!

Well, so here is a brief discussion about Taqueria Pico de Gallo on Sixth Avenue. It's just north of I-10, between the Food City and the Social Security Office.

One of my buddies came in to town and said he wanted the "best" Mexican food around. Now, I'm not trying to start a debate here. I know my buddy, and what he meant by best meant that it need not be fancy, just damn good. And while I had plenty of places to take him (on the second lunch we went to Las Cazuelitas), hands down the "best" place to take him on day 1 was Taqueria Pico de Gallo.

Their service has become really slow lately, so it's no longer that easy to get in and out of there on a strict 60-minute lunch cycle. The the food is still just as good as it always has been. So order the tacos, and make sure to ask for corn tortillas, not flour. These are the best corn tortillas in town (and on that distinction, I am indeed willing to debate). You will not want to wash your hands after the meal because of the aroma on your fingertips.

Okay, I know this wasn't much of a review. Summary, if you've never been, ya gotta go. If it's been a while, get back there, the food is still great. But don't go right at lunch if you're in a hurry.

¡ Propero Año !
